Grand Canyon

A canyon before me,
a road to my back.
I march up the trail,
a single dirt track.
The canyon is hidden,
I give a small frown.
I have to hike up,
Before I hike down.
I get to the rim,
I look in a gaze.
The wind is a-blowing,
it kicks up a haze.
A canyon before me,
a river below.
I start my descent,
from higher to low.
The trail is quite hard,
my resolve is steadfast.
I get to the spot,
that has haunted my past.
The sweat starts to bead,
my face turns pale white.
The trail will get narrow,
Fear I must fight.
If I do slip,
my life, will end.
If I do not,
I live, my friend.
I get to the spot,
and to my surprise.
The trail has been widened,
Tears fill my eyes.
I dare not to blink,
for then I would cry.
I walk across it,
Like I’m some tough guy.
To be honest with you,
I started to think.
This physical test,
Was only a link.
A link to my mind,
and what I could do.
What I did find,
I already knew.
It’s not about doing,
It’s not about done.
I was with my Dad,
Two is better than one.
